This week, for the first time ever, its London Jewellery Week or better Coutts London Jewellery Week. The city will buzz with catwalk shows, exhibitions, collection launches, open houses, seminars, workshops, demonstrations and what not to promote London as one of the leading centres when it comes to international jewellery design. There will be something for every taste from high end luxury jewellery to designer maker pieces.
The initative started about two years ago when City Fringe Partnership went into study whether such an consumer-facing event is feasable. After positive results Coutts stepped on the stage to be the title sponsor for this first time ever event with the aim to support jewellery industry via the Jewellery Sector Investment Plan (JSIP). Beside Coutts an illustre bouquet of patrons have given their support, like Garrard, Theo Fennell, De Beers, Boodles, Swarovski, to name a few.
With two showcases on the schedule I am curious how this event will effect every jeweller involved and if it pushes sales, publicity and understading of what we do. Unfortunately my diary this week is full as I am preparing for things in July, so I will miss most of whats on show. I definitely will have a look at the Cockpit Arts open studios, which is interesting this time, as makers demontrate their work process. Go and see my friend Angie Boothroyd there, she’s and alchemist and master in gold alloying.
If you have some spare time on Thrursday come around to Nicholas James on Hatton Garden to have a look at the show I’m in. As the event is by invitation only and the precious cards are sent out so you’d have to get a glimpse through the window…knock and I bring a glass of champagne outside. That will all be fun…We’ll see.
